Genomic structure of IRF-1 in different classes of vertebrates. The gene names listed on the right are as the same as those in Table 1 and in Additional file 1. Exons are expressed as black boxes, and introns as lines. The size of exons is indicated above the boxes in bp, and the size of introns below the lines also in bp. The length of exons indicated as black boxes and of introns indicated as straight lines is proportional to their bp sizes, but the concave-lines are non-proportional. Human (Homo sapiens), mouse (Mus musculus) and dog (Canis familiaris), chicken (Gallus gallus), anole lizard (Anolis carolinensis), frog (Xenopus tropicalis), and zebrafish (Dario rerio) and stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatu s) represent vertebrates in classes of mammal, avian, reptile, amphibian and piscine, as also indicated in Figures 2 to 11.
